2005 SPECIALTY REPORT

It was hard to believe that this specialty approached so quickly! It felt like yesterday when we were just packing everything up from last year! Sure looks like that in my basement anyhow!

Once again the club’s annual specialty show was held in association with the Monarch KC All –breed shows. There was the added bonus of the All Hound Club specialty on the same weekend, which gave ridgebacks 5 chances for points.

The night before the show, a dinner was planned at the Elmhurst Inn. The atmosphere is spectacular and the food delicious. It was well attended and I received many compliments on the Inn and the food!

Show day was partly sunny, but cool and windy. Great for the dogs! The day started with the small but dedicated obedience competitors. Our judge Diana MacKenzie, put the 2 competitors thru their paces, unfortunately, neither passed their trials. It would be great to see more obedience participants it’s a great way to show how versatile our ridgebacks can be!

Next was the sweepstakes judging with a last minute judge change as our scheduled judge had very sick 4 week old puppies to tend to, lucky for the club Terry Taft was on hand to step in and judge for us. Terry did a wonderful job. Love to see those bouncy puppies and calm but happy veterans in the ring. Look for pictures and comments further on in the newsletter.

Next came the regular classes with judge Dr. John Reeve-Newson. Dr. Reeve-Newson did a fabulous job at judging all the great dogs that were entered in the show. The eventual winner was Am Ch. Ivy League’s Acadamy Award “ Oscar” (also WD/BOW).
Look for comments and photos throughout the newsletter.

I would like to thank all the many people who helped to make this specialty very successful. Diane Waters for her invaluable support and advice, and organizing the Best Ridge contest, Diana Hogan for picking up the wonderful flower baskets that adorned the ring. Malcolm and Carole Kennedy who helped cart things back and forth for me! Plus thanks to all those that brought food and drinks, helped with setup and take down. Volunteers like yourselves make for a great specialty.

Who can forget our wonderful ring stewards. Many thanks to Bethany Manderson for stewarding the obedience and to Marilyn Semph for her awesome skills at keeping everything running smoothly during the rest of the competitions.

After best in show judging the juniors had a chance to show off their stuff! Fellow ridgeback handler and breeder Mike Teeling from Rochester had the honors of judging the juniors.

Once all the regular show stuff was done, a Best Ridge contest was held. Thanks to Laurie Rusticus for judging males, John Rumble for judging females and John Rusticus for judging best overall ridged. Winner of the best female ridge was Fallon, owned by Janice Wolfe and best male/best overall was Dakota, also owned by Janice Wolfe.
A raffle was also held, with proceeds going to rescue.

Once again, ARRF had a successful specialty show. Thanks everyone! Here’s looking to 2006!
